Scottish National Portrait Gallery

Scottish National Portrait Gallery

A distinctive red neo-gothic building, the Scottish National Portrait Gallery was originally modeled on the Doges Palace in Venice, and one of Edinburgh’s most iconic. Inside, seventeen galleries with free themed exhibits that include painting, photography, sculpture and film.

It is a fascinating overview of the country and the people who have helped shape its culture. You can see Portraits of notable Scottish characters from Prince Charles Edward Stuart to Sir Walter Scott, from Scottish monarchs to poets and pioneers in science – with plenty space and a smart display that gives a clear idea of the history behind each painting.
