For nearly 2 months now, Somerset House has transformed part of itself into the home of all things Stanley Kubrick. But this isn’t your run-of-the-mill exhibition, far from it, this is a curation of art ‘inspired’ by the man that brought us such classics as 2001: A Space Odyssey, Full Metal Jacket and The Shining.
Curators Mo’Wax and James Lavelle have gathered together amazing artists, musicians, film-makers and performers and asked them to respond to either a whole film, a scene or even a character from one of Kubrick’s works.
So if you want to be bathed in light whilst in a phone booth reminiscent of that scene in Dr. Strangelove when Mandrake tries to make a collect call to the President, or witness the phallic wonder of Priapus, a sculpture suggestive of A Clockwork Orange’s famous murder weapon, then you have found your sanctuary.
Daydreaming promises to be a multi-disciplinary, multi-sensory and multi-faceted exhibition that brings together the beautiful vision of Kubrick with contemporary interpretations of his work. A real must for any Kubrick fans, but also for the curious more than anything else.
