An ambitious new touring exhibition of pioneering female digital artists arrives at the Phoenix Gallery this week, in partnership with the Brighton Digital Festival. Technology is Not Neutral examines concepts at the very edge of human endeavour; including drone choreography, brainwave sequencing, social media activism and telepresence – apt topics indeed for an exhibition whose title is a nod to Donna Haraway’s Cyborg Manifesto.
The arts program at Phoenix throughout the month will offer the public abundant opportunity to experiment with the techniques behind the exhibition. Highlights include: a gallery tour with curator Gordana Novakovic (Thurs 1st); a full day workshop in creating music and art with brainwaves (Sat 3rd); a workshop in drone choreography (Sat 1oth); and full-day workshop ‘Hacking Reality’ with Kate Genevieve (Sat 17th).
Technology is Not Neutral opens at the Phoenix Gallery with a private view and gallery tour on Thursday 1st September from 4 – 6pm. The exhibition will be running at Phoenix until September 29th – entry is free and unticketed. For more information or to book a workshop, click here.
