Irvine Welsh’s tales of heroin-fueled debauchery infiltrate the tunnels of Bristol’s Temple Meads in Adam Spreadbury-Maher and Greg Esplin’s hit production of Trainspotting.
New arts venue The Loco Klub provides an apt setting for the dark and gritty underworld of Welsh’s cult classic, brought to life by a critically acclaimed cast of Britain’s most up-and-coming actors.
Already a sell-out at Edinburgh Fringe and the King’s Head Theatre in London, you’re in for a treat if you like immersive theatre. Commencing with a full-on 90s rave (complete with strobe lighting and glo-sticks) and featuring “more fluids being splashed than at seaworld” (TV Bomb), prepare to come away from this experience with a light covering of spit, Glen’s Vodka, and potentially bruising. An energetic production to say the least, and certainly not for the fainthearted – even Welsh himself found it “shocking…and I wrote the f*cking thing!”
Anyone who has read the novel can only imagine what to expect from the infamous ‘Worst Toilet in Scotland’ scene…
