SNEAK PEEKS: This week’s engrossing movie trailers IMAGE:

A plethora of engrossing movie trailers await you this week. They all look to be quality offerings from all corners of the movie industry. From low-budget to big, from action to comedy there is something here for everyone this week, starting with a very exciting final sneak peek at Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story – Lucasfilm

Well, there’s not much we haven’t already said about Rogue One, but it would feel pretty wrong not to cover the final trailer. We get more of a glimpse into the deeper story of the film, with Mads Mikkelsen featuring for the first time as Jyn Erso’s father who seems to be key in the development of the Death Star.

Very excitingly we also get two glimpses of Darth Vader, one of them with him walking rapidly out of the smoke at a very intimidated look Ben Mendehlson. It is all very exciting for Star Wars fans, but we will still all have to wait until December to see what the film is like.

Operator – The Orchard

Next up, Operator tells the story of a computer programmer who uses his wife’s voice to create a new computerized Siri-style voice which threatens to break apart their marriage. The film stars Martin Starr, Mae Whitman, Nat Faxon and Cameron Esposito and is directed by Logen Kibens who makes his feature film directorial debut.

The film looks interesting, it does seem to have a touch of Spike Jonze’s Her about it, in that it appears that Martin Starr’s character develops feelings for the automated voice but adding the element of the voice being the same as his wife’s gives the film an interesting edge. One of the problems some had with Her was that while it had an interesting concept, there was little conflict in the film, which Operator almost looks to have remedied somewhat. Operator premiered back in March of this year at South by Southwest festival which is where it was picked up for distribution. The film will be released in November.

Army of One – Anchor Bay Entertainment

Nicholas Cage stars as ex-con and unemployed handyman Gary Faulkner who believes God has sent him to Pakistan to capture Osama bin Laden, in Army of One. The story is based on the real-life Faulkner who did just that, travelled to Pakistan to look for bin Laden. Starring alongside Cage are the likes of Wendi McLendon-Covey, Rainn Wilson and Russell Brand.

Larry Charles directs the film who we all know from his days on Seinfeld and more recently his work with Sacha Baron Cohen on Borat, Bruno and The Dictator. Cage looks truly wonderful in this film, his brand of madness that only he can pull off. However, for some reason this film isn’t getting a theatrical release and is instead being released through video on demand and then DVD and Blu-ray. This seems weird when there is a director and cast of such caliber. Maybe the film just isn’t very good, although it does look promising or maybe the lack of theatrical release was intentional. Army of One will be released in November.

John Wick: Chapter 2 – Summit Entertainment

Finally this week, John Wick is back! After the success of the first John Wick film there are now talks for it to become a multiple-title action franchise (yeah, because we need another one of those!). Keanu is back as legendary hitman John Wick who is forced back out of retirement by a former associate plotting to seize control of a shadowy international assassin’s guild. Bound by a blood oath to help him, John travels to Rome where he faces off against some of the world’s deadliest killers.

Starring alongside Reeves are the likes of Common, Bridget Moynahan, Ian McShane, John Leguizamo, Ruby Rose and Laurence Fishburne. Chad Stahelski is back in the director’s chair and it looks to promise more of the same pounding action that the first film delivered. John Wick: Chapter 2 will be released in February.

So there you have it for another look at the latest in movie trailer land. Come back next week for another sneak peek!
