The Bank Holiday weekend’s come and gone, and we’re all left pining for the next one in August. Yet, the August Bank Holiday’s got some way to go if it’s going to beat the 90’s Playback at The Laundry because that bar has been set high.
The Metropolist opted for the 90’s grunge look – torn jeans, denim jacket, flannel shirt tied around the waist and a back-to-front cap decorated in garish colours. Heading down the smoke-filled ramp of The Laundry – a stone’s throw away from London Fields – we felt like participants in ‘Stars in their Eyes’; everything we were channelling that night was infused with 90’s throwbacks.
Surrounded by 90s ravers, pop stars and hip-hop rappers the music made the night from the minute we entered to the second we left, from Rage Against The Machine to REM via Red Hot Chilli Peppers, the DJs had it all covered.
Drunken dancing with pina coladas in hand, taking a short respite only to kick our friend’s asses at Street Fighter on the retro games console, the night was a hit. It’s just a shame it ended at 2am. But hey, take nothing away from the night – put on by Bourne & Hollingsworth; it’s up there with one of the best nights we’ve had this year.
