Finsbury Park, for the last year or so, has been undergoing a bit of a makeover with new independent coffee shops, restaurants and stores cropping up as gentrification sweeps through north London. One of the newest restaurants to open up on Stroud Green Road is Brisket – a BBQ fast-food street joint that’s taken over where the Rub Milk Bar used to be.
Don’t let the name fool you, the focus isn’t just on brisket, though the Korean brisket soft shell tacos here are very good – a signature you could say; tender cuts of meat cooked well and with the right level of flavours with kimchi and black garlic mayo.
Another winner on the menu is the beef burger slider to start – a mini cheeseburger that’s excellently barbecued and served with gem lettuce and a pickle. Accompany this with the sweet potato fries and Sriracha mayo and you’ll be set up nicely.
There are some things that Brisket succeeds in, like the cocktails: try the Jam Jar Rock Star. And there are some things that seem too adventurous, such as the chicken enchilada with mole, cream, feta and pickled onion; though you’ve got to admire the ambition put into this one, there’s something about the flavour that doesn’t quite work.
All being said, the menu is said to be rotated every few months by manager Darragh Kelliher and and his team, and with his passion driving it Brisket could become a favourite among the locals this summer.
