REVIEW: Mango Tree

As scary as it seems, Christmas is nearly upon us, which means office parties are getting booked up sharpish and shopping lists are being written up. In case you’re wondering where to go with your work this year, consider something different in Mango Tree.

The popular Thai restaurant, based in Belgravia, is more organised than most with its Christmas menu ready and waiting already. Catering to both the carnivores and the omnivores, the mouthwatering three-course options are priced at £42.95 per person and includes Christmas crackers! Some of the stand out appetisers include the Gai Yang Num-Peung (grilled marinated turkey skewer with homemade honey sauce, served with sweet chilli sauce) and the Por Pia Sod (fresh homemade spring roll, with avocado, glass noodles, coriander, mint and selected mixed vegetables with spicy sauce). For a fancy main, look no further than the Goong Mung Korn (half a Canadian lobster in garlic butter sauce or ginger and spring onion sauce), while vegetarians will salivate over the Pad Pak Ruam Mitr (stir-fried mixed vegetables ((Chinese kale, broccoli, carrot, baby corn, oyster mushroom, sugar snap)) with garlic and oyster mushroom sauce).

Of course, there is the highly extensive range on the normal menu, which will leave one truly spoilt for choice; we recommend the signature dishes, particularly the lamb shank massaman curry. It’s rich in flavour and the meat really does just peel off the bone and melt in the mouth.

Sweet tooth? May we suggest the Thai Christmas Delight – Christmas pie with homemade mango mousse and Asian crumble. A really delicious way to kick-start the festive season.

Three things will strike you when entering Mango Tree: one, the lively ambience; two, the delicious smells over from the kitchen; and three, the professionalism and friendliness of the attentive staff. And what with a new branch opening up in Harrods recently, there’s definitely a table waiting for you.
