Sweet-tooth’s rejoice: no longer do you have to hack it out through the main meal to get to your favourite part, dessert. London’s Café Royal is opening the capital’s first dessert restaurant at The Café on Thursday 3rd March. Dentists might recoil, albeit we’re just thrilled we can now skip straight to the good stuff and save stomach space for, well, more pudding.

The tasting menus have been created by Executive Pastry Chef Sarah Barber, and also include a range of savoury bites to prepare the palate, before moving on to the sweet dishes. There are optional wine flight accompaniments too — and let’s be honest, it would be ingenuous not to have a glass of sparkling Prosecco di Valdobbiadene with your Milky Way.

And, aptly so, the menus not only offer a unique journey of sweet plates to showcase Sarah’s immaculate skill and creativity, but also play with her earlier upbringing years.

Take for instance the three-course Childhood Memories menu, which features nostalgic favourites such as Rhubarb & Custard and Jaffa Cake — something we’re anticipating will look and taste like a high-gloss, silky Hermes version of the supermarket biscuit versions.

The Pick n Mix menu is a throwback to those corner shop visits as kids: guests can make their selection of four dishes, with savouries such as White Rabbit with Acapella cheese, artichokes and black truffle; Salmon Tart with silky avocado; and desserts like Eat Me, Drink Me  (Snickers, chocolate malt shake).

Sarah’s playful imagination clearly has zero limits, as the five-course Sarah in Wonderland menu is the real game-changer (and belt-buster). Starting with two light savoury courses, guests then move on to the Mad Hatter (BFG, kirsch and cherries), Eat Me, Drink Me before finishing with the Queen Of Hearts (raspberries, Champagne and roses) — something we think even the real Queen of Hearts would be on board with, a prestigious tribute to her rouge reign.

The dessert restaurant will run alongside the launch of Sarah’s new day food and drink menus in The Café; furthermore, if you fancy taking more of the decadent sweet-stuff home, it’s a no brainer that the patisserie’s petit gâteau such as Pistachio & apricot mille feuille; Strawberry lemon candy caneRaspberry rose sphere will keep you happy.

The dessert tasting menus will be available daily from 6pm – 10.30pm; Prices start from £26 per person and all desserts are also available to take away.
