Global Rhythms is taking over Brixton this Easter Sunday 27th March for the afro-beat meets house party’s first ever day and night event. Featuring a tastier line-up than your basket of chocolate Easter eggs and buttery hot cross buns, we’re even more excited that it means there are no consequences involving nursing a hangover at work on the Monday morning.
After your lazy lie in on Sunday, head to POP Box Brixton in the early afternoon where GR will be providing some thumping tunes and bangin’ beats, alongside the trendy pop-up cocktail bars and food stalls. Once you’re well-fuelled, dance till dusk then continue the moves with the whole shin-dig moving up to Electric Brixton for a serious knees-up.
The line up at the Electric includes live performances by Romare, Dele Sosimi Afrobeat Orchestra, Berlin’s Session Victim, as well as DJ sets by Crazy P, Bradley Zero, and more. Global Rhythms had so much fun hosting Romare back in January, that they’ve brought him back to headline at this exciting event —his second ever live show.
Joining Romare on the stage will be the incredible Dele Sosimi Afrobeat Orchestra —known for its funky rhythm guitars, fiery percussion, call and response vocals, and blazing horns – faithful to the original blueprint. Now based in London, Dele directs his own afrobeat orchestra with whom he has performed worldwide including gigs at London’s Jazz café, Montreux Jazz Festival, Womad, as well as leading a large group of jazz musicians at the Copenhagen Jazz Festival.
And because GR never settle for anything less than one or two high-calibre live acts, Berlin’s Session Victim is coming to the party too. Notorious for being one of the best on the block, Session Victim fuses house, jazz and funk into one colossal groove mix.
DJ support comes from top selectors Crazy P, Bradley Zero, YAM Records, Container Records, and First World Records alongside Global Rhythms residents Elwood, and Sam & Toby.
