If there’s one place you want to be when Friday night rolls around it’ll be Ovation. This Friday 15th April, Ovation are hosting a super special evening of electronic music, joined by Austrian live act HVOB, Israeli two-piece Red Axes, Kompakt duo Weval and acclaimed UK DJs Medlar and MermaidS.
HVOB — the Austrian two-piece live act — have been making waves far beyond their home town Vienna since the duo’s beginning in 2012. Anna Müller and Paul Wallner have quite the unique
With their acclaimed debut album in 2013 and five following EPs, have crafted a unique arrangement of sound that is at once intelligent and driving, sparse and challenging. Trialog, their altogether darker and melodic second album, was released last year and shot through to universal acclaim.
They’re joined by Red Axes, another duo who blew the roofs off Bethnal Green at their Ovation debut last year. The Israeli producers — Dori Sadovnik and Niv Arzi — first performed together as a post-punk band, then formed the Red Axes in 2009. The duo’s debut LP Ballad Of The Ice combined elements of acid rock and left-of-centre house, incorporating live instruments into their production repertoire. It’s deep, playful and faintly psychedelic.
Also locked in for this memorable evening are Weval, aka Harm Coolen and Merijn Scholte. Bonding over their affection for electronic music while studying in their native Holland, as such their musical influences are extensive – trip-hop, house and jazz. Delicately sew these into their soft, melodic productions and you’ve got some cracking albums like Atomnation and Kompakt. And their live sets don’t even compete: heard everywhere from Rajasthan to Tel-Aviv, London, you’re in for a jaw-dropping act.
Rounding out the bill are Wolf Music prodigy Medlar and Glasgow duo MermaidS. Medlar is rightly regarded as one of the UK’s deepest diggers, capable of effortlessly joining the dots between house, techno, disco, hip hop and everything in between.
What are you doing this Friday? We needn’t ask, Ovation’s a given.
