The upmarket suburb Notting Hill isn’t exactly the sort of location you associate with tucking into a tasty portion of one of Britain’s favourite dish, the classic fish & chips — we think gastro pub or sand-in-toes seaside dining. Albeit Kensington Place is bucking the trend with such association and after last year’s success is re-opening the Notting Gill Chippy.

The menu was an outright winner; and, apropro to its location, the food is certainly more chic than most fish and chip shops. Chef Tim Peirson’s novel interpretations of other much loved British classics will run alongside traditional fish and chip dishes.

New dishes to prep your bib for include Mackerel sliders, sweet chilli crème fraiche with sweet &  sour slaw; Salt & pepper squid with soy and ginger dressingSmoked bacon and apple scotch egg; and King prawn scampi (classic with tartar sauce or curried with mango chutney). 

Sticking to ye olde fish & chips? Well say sayonara to heavily battered flaky fish and soggy chips, as the Notting Gill Chippy will keep you smiling ear to ear with their classic version served with tartar sauce and mushy peas; and for those who are keen to try it with a bit of an exotic twist, opt for the Curried-Spiced Batter Fish & Chips with mango chutney with a side of lentil dahl.

Make sure you loosen the belt buckle for summertime-inspired dessert of Pineapple fritters with vanilla ice cream. Childhood never tasted so good.
Ooh and what shall we quench thy ocean-thirst with? A refreshing range of ‘Cocktails & Softs’ will be available such as the London Spring Punch or Iron Bru, cream soda and coke while draft beer fans can try London Meantime Pale Ale.

There’s certainly an archetypal old-style chippie vibe to the place too, with minimalist coastal interiors, counter service, a large takeaway board and seating at the window in a light and spacious dining area —no seagulls nicking you chippies.

The Chippy will launch on Thursday 3rd march and will be open for 2 months for lunch and dinner (Tuesday – Saturday) — it’ll be the perfect lead-up to summer time. And for all of Notting Hills’ prestigious reputation, it’s nice to know it has a sense of humour and whimsy —pulling puns with the name and serving fish & chips, what’s not to like really? Best get down for some chippies before it’s too late.
