Hackney is home to some of the coolest bars in London, but now there’s a new kid on the block who’s elevating the cool quotient to a whole new level. Just so we’re clear, by kid we mean bar… didn’t want you thinking there was some kind of hipster Milky Bar Kid wandering around Hackney… although that wouldn’t look out of place, given the location. Anyway, we digress…where were we – ah yes, Number 90 Bar in Hackney Wick – tres cool.
The opening weekend was a three-day party with local artists, producers, food merchants, musicians and DJs all collaborating to kick things off. Truman’s were there serving their delicious beers, while Number 90 Head Chef, Leon Borja kept people well fed with a specially devised one-off menu that paid homage to his Brazilian roots. Backing the man up over the weekend were Hanoi Kitchen and Thank Cluck who were also present serving the best in Vietnamese and fried chicken respectively.
As part of the monthly WICKED LIVE takeover, Number 90 brought in some of east London’s finest DJs including Road To Nowhere. The Vinyl Factory, Marksman and Lois & The Love were also keeping toes tapping over the opening weekend.
There’s something virtually every night of the week at Number 90: Tuesdays are Burger & Movies nights, second and third Wednesdays of the month are WICKED LIVE (showcasing the best in emerging music talent), third Wednesdays are also Bingo night, Thursdays are Soul & Funky + Cocktails, and Sundays it’s all about killer roasts soundtracked to a slice of jazz.
