Pizza Pilgrims heads east to Exmouth

News breaking update! The pilgrimage of the Pizza has at last ventured to a postcode without a ‘W’ – so you can power through the silly season on some seriously good sourdough bases and Neopolitan toppings if you need to. If you want proof of such, head to Exmouth Market where Soho’s favourite pizzeria Pizza Pilgrims has now opened up another of their tasty trattorias.

Bursting on to the London food scene in September 2011, brothers James and Thom converted their humble Piaggo Ape van into a mobile kitchen after returning from a pilgrimage in Italy to discover the real art of pizza making. And that they did —the authentic taste of Italy has transpired into three restaurants, as well as a cookbook Pizza Pilgrims: Recipes from the Backstreets of Italy and also a special edition fruit liqueur- Pococello.

The latest addition to their pizzeria family will settle in well along this foodie strip in Exmouth Market.  Punters will be tempted with their deliciously infamous ballooning crusts and juicy toppings, fresh out of the wood fired oven.  What sets Pizza Pilgrims apart from the rest of London’s pizzerias is how they push all their flavours to absolute melting point: the Margherita and Marinara will of course be making menu appearances, but it’s the popular Carbonara and spicy Nduja creations that most of us seem to make an absolute demolition job out of.

The pilgrimage will be taking one step further at this Exmouth site with a lunchtime only Pizza Soup menu —you heard right. Combine all your favourite pizza ingredients, blitz them into a soup then mop it all up with a pizza dough roll that’s been stuffed with fior di latte, olives and garlic.

And while the restaurant has some serious intel on how to make appetizing pizza, this place is also set to mark itself as a pretty cool site. Sprawling across two floors and seating up to 40 people, the restaurant will also be filled with retro arcade machines, nods to Tetris and a playlist with 90s tunes that will make you want to dust off that discman and dream of Dawson Leary all over again.

Somehow we think our lunch breaks just got longer than one hour.
