Following on from the success of 2015, which saw Oval Space launch London’s newest music venue, The Pickle Factory, and the introduction of the Ovation live music series, the 2016 season is set to get off to a roaring start and see the creativity and boundaries of their musical programming develop rapidly.
To kick the year off in style, January 28th will see the launch of Alex Smoke’s new album on R&S Records, along with avant garde supergroup The Sprawl and White Peak.
Alex Smoke’s much-anticipated upcoming LP “Love Over Will” represents his third collaboration with the R&S crew, and further explores the vocal territory of his earlier side-project, Wraetlic.
Smoke will present his new L.O.W A/V show, leaving the dance floor context of his usual sets and working on a more intriguing and varied performance featuring live animations by Florence To.
Joining Smoke will be The Sprawl, a collaborative project from Mumdance, Logos and Shapednoise. The three esteemed producers have been making music on the peripheries of grime and experimental for some time, but The Sprawl symbolises their full dive into the real gritty, grumbling, abstract techno. Death Of Rave, EP1, their debut release was applauded for its brutal intensity and intelligent meshing of musical forms.
Support is lent by White Peak, who round out the bill with their debut live performance in London.
Excited? We are, and this is only the first for the year…
Highlights at Oval Space between January – March 2016 include a tour de force of house & techno on 19th February across both venues, with Marcel Dettmann, Laurent Garnier and Radio Slave playing in Oval Space, while a special guest will be taking over The Pickle Factory with a four-hour set, leaving just enough room for a very special unannounced B2B set. Get the diaries out and lock these sets in.
