Thank goodness then, that Strut & Cluck have now opened a permanent restaurant in Shoreditch after tempting us with such delicious dishes during their residency at Shoreditch House in November 2015. Founded by husband and wife duo Amir and Limor, Strut & Cluck serve dishes inspired by Eastern Mediterranean home cooking, with the star of the show — free-range turkey — served in new and exciting ways alongside seasonal ingredients.

How has this once overlooked bird stolen the limelight? Well, upon discovering the versatility and flavour of turkey – now often labelled as a superfood – Limor no longer needed to use Thanksgiving as an excuse to cook it for her family. Dishes at Strut & Cluck have been designed to keep the focus on the nutrient dense protein with an emphasis on roasting and grilling over charcoal —no deep fryers here.

Using the aforementioned preparation technique, diners can opt to have their turkey on the bone, or without. On the bone dishes include Charcoal-Grilled Drumstick with roasted white cabbage & herbs, tahini, pomegranate molasses and zhoug; Limor’s Classic Slow-Roast Thigh on a bed of caramelised red onions and sweet potatoes with barberries; and sticky wings that are smothered in harissa, honey & rosemary.

Fan of the boneless meal? We think the Hand-Pulled Shawarna with Dates & Pine Nuts will sort you out.  However, the Turkey Sandwich Reinvented on grilled sourdough with hand-pulled turkey, pickled onion mayo, pickled eggs and feta-stuffed peppers could provoke some serious table jealousy.

As for the vegetarian diners, thou have not been booted to the kerb. Perfectly shareable dishes are split into sections : Nibbled, Roasted and Tossed. Think Labneh with Roasted Cherry Tomatoes on the Vine with a sprinkle of za’atar and served with sourdough slices; Charcoal-Grilled Market Vegetables drizzled with a balsamic reduction; and a smoky aubergine and tahini dip with fluffy pita to scoop.

Not only have Amir & Limor hit high on the emphasis note with these appetising creations, the poultry theme continues with tiles on the wall designed to resemble the feather formations of a strutting turkey, as well as hanging baskets and lanterns adorning the bright and airy space. The décor is an eclectic collection of found and bought furniture and ornaments, including Limor’s own works of art, and they’ve even had music curated especially for the restaurant to complement its selection of cocktails and craft beers.
