Keen to brush up on your whisky knowledge ahead of World Whisky Day (21st May)? Or perhaps you’re just interested in discovering why this worldly spirit is such a cherished nectar? Then head along to Basement Sate as they team up with scotch whisky brand R&B Distillers for an indulgent evening of desserts and whisky tasting — and a convincing array of whisky-bluffing techniques.

On the night, guests will be welcomed with a welcome cocktail, crafted especially to showcase R&B Distillers’ premium whisky. From there, you will sample a dram of the two whiskies — the rose tinted single malt While We Wait and the golden single grain Borders – both of which offer a provocative preview of the calibre and flavour of whisky to come from their future distilleries.

For the complete whisky novices — do not be deterred by this so-called ‘serious’ drink. Pfft. It’s all just psoh-nosh riff-raff. It’s anyone’s tipple —and to be enjoyed by all. Dedicated whisky lovers will also benefit from the night: who doesn’t love it when a premium brand brings out a new product and you can get up close and personal with the experts?

Moreover, whisky & dessert is the order of the night and each of the whiskies will be paired with an exquisite dessert in order to demonstrate the versatility of the spirit. Created by Head Chef Romain Rocher, While We Wait will be accented by the dessert pairing with mint and light yuzu panna cotta with liquorice crumble. Meanwhile, as the finishing process for the Borders single grain takes place in Oloroso sherry casks thus it will be paired with hazelnut chocolate sherry sphere.

Throughout the evening, guests will be invited to put their noses and palates to the test to identify the delicate flavours within each whisky while a member of the Basement Sate team will further explain the reasoning behind the pairings.

It’s a delicious, unexpected partnership and an evening set to impress. You’ll be able to bluff breezily through World Whisky Day — and beyond.
