The Legacy of Kain series has always been a little odd. Despite being revered as a classic, the series has fallen from grace somewhat. With the latest instalment Dead Sun being canned late into development it almost felt like we would never see a return to form. However, a few choice words from Crystal Dynamics senior designer Michael Brinker may have reignited the fervour for more Kain.
Recently, finder.com.au interviewed Brinker and asked if there was a chance of seeing another entry in the series:
“We have in-house developers who really want to make that game…It’s interesting because people look back at our history and our franchises and see that we have some really great iconic IPs.”
“So gamers wonder; ‘where are they and what are they doing?’ Well we’re always tossing around and talking about ideas [of bringing them back]. It really is 50/50.”
Crystal Dynamics is currently know for their work on the new Tomb Raider games, most recently Rise of the Tomb Raider. Work on Dead Sun ceased back in 2012 to the horror of not only the fans, but the developers who had put three years into making the game. A full half hour of footage of the product is available for those who thrive on sadness.
If you don’t like the chances or simply want to wait out Crystal Dynamics vague proposition, the free to play multiplayer game Nosgoth is available. Or if you just fancy a trek back into the history of the series, the last single player instalment, Defiance, is on Steam.
