After years of Marvel superiority by both land and sea (well, film and TV), it looks DC is finally making a comeback. Not only are they finally getting their act together with regards to the Justice League – their slate includes 10 films up to 2020 – but Arrow become arguably The CW’s flagship show, in the grand tradition of Smallville, and Gotham is positioned to take on the juggernaut that is Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Now we have The Flash, an Arrow spinoff that’s already beginning to overtake it on the ratings front.
The Flash stars Grant Gustin (formerly of Glee) as Barry Allen, an assistant forensic investigator in Central City and avowed geek who’s granted the “gift” of superhuman speed. As with all good superheroes, Barry’s parents were murdered when he was a kid (well, parent – his mum) and now he’s determined to unravel the whole mystery behind it. By running. Very, very fast. Still, with some state-of-the-art FX to portray Barry in motion, a superhero’s baby steps have never looked better. As for the villains… Gorilla Grood, anyone?
